Mandarins Cricket Club 2026 Summary

Highlights

Played 25, Won 10, Lost 11, Drew 4, plus one inter-Mandarin game.  Win percentage 48%, (2025 39.1%.) 3 games were cancelled, only one of which lost to weather.

Heaviest Victories: By 8 wickets vs St Annes Allstars and The Spread; by 123 runs vs Weekenders.

Narrowest Victories: By 5 wickets vs Elstead); by 12 runs vs Heber Nomads.

Heaviest Defeats: By 9 wickets vs Taplow and Brightwell; by 107 runs vs Covenant/Rotten Livers.

Narrowest Defeats: By 25 runs vs Erratics, by 4 wickets vs Treasury (check Charlatans).

Highest score for 287 for 5 vs South London Oddballs. Highest score against 303 for 6 vs SMCC Midweek.

Lowest score for 71 for 3 to win vs Alton; 74 all out vs Quilibets. Lowest score against 70 (Alton).

Mandarins scored 16 50s, and 3 centuries:

Frankpitt 104* vs Brixton Barbarians, 77* vs Weekenders, 74 vs South London Oddballs, 54 vs SMCC, 52 vs Rotten Livers.

Nawaz 103* vs South London Oddballs

Rangarajan 100* vs Brixton Barbarians

Saunders 82* vs Weekenders

Ramani 68 vs North Enfield, 55 vs Brill

Lowin 65 vs SMCC, 50* vs St Annes, 50* vs Mickleham

S Forman-Wilshaw 59 vs SMCC Midweek

Siddiqi 57 vs ODB

S Tunbridge 54* vs Abinger

Garrett 53 vs Taplow

G Tunbridge 53 vs Erratics

Dasgupta 51* vs The Spread

There was only one 5-fer: best bowling was Graeme Tunbridge 6-0-31-5 vs Mickleham.  Vinoth Kanna took 4 twice, and Dan Forman once.

Notable events: 63 players turned out for the Mandarins (2024, 66) of whom 15 appeared just once. On 19 April vs South London Oddballs Barrie Temple became the oldest Mandarin player – just how old, nobody knows…. Worst collapses: Mandarins had no proper collapses this year, unless you count the last 4 for 3 vs Quilibets. Against us, Elstead lost 4 for 0 (46-2 to 46-6). Playing for Harwell, Sooraj was “Timed out” - I think a first for Mandarins.

Jonathan Wilmot beat Peter Lewy’s all-time stumping record of 40 victims on 28 June vs Heber. Our 287 for 5 vs S London Oddballs was the third highest ever for the club and the most in limited overs. Our 181 for 4 vs Treasury was our best ever T20 score – it follows that their 182 to win was our worst effort. The SMCC game on 26 April saw the 2nd highest match aggregate, 536, and the second highest failed Mandarin run chase, 244. That was until the SMCC Midweek game in July when both were eclipsed, 569 aggregate, 266 to fail to win. The 266 was our 5th highest ever score, and their 303 for 6 the second most runs ever conceded by us (Barnes Common 2005 still unsurpassed). We passed 200 8 times – not quite matching the 9 occasions of 1994, but 1994 was 9 out of 36 games (25%), easily beaten this year: 8 out of 25 = 32%. Our 8th 200 plus score was actually after 17 games (47%). We passed 250 three times, having only got there once per season before.

There were 23 50 plus partnerships. The 182 (a composite as both retired not out, exact score unrecorded but probably around 130 added together) added for the 2nd wicket vs Brixton Barbarians by Alex Frankpitt and Kishen Rangarajan was the third highest for any wicket. It is only the second time that two centuries have been made in the same match. Sam Tunbridge became the youngest scorer of a Mandarins 50 at Abinger (about 70 years younger than Barrie). Batting with Sam, Harry Wigram achieved batting nirvana by becoming the first ever Mandarin to score 6 sixes in an over.

Johnny Extras had another decent season, scoring 44 vs Brill (43 last year) and 41 vs Treasury. He/she/they accumulated 546 at an average of over 22. Net contribution was 159, sustaining an as yet not satisfactorily explained trend going back to the earliest records. Alex’s aggregate of 462 was the highest since Chris Healey’s 518 in 2009, and Kishen also passed 400 for the second year running.  Mandarins recorded 24 ducks (2025 = 31) out of 186 completed innings, 12.9%, vs historic average of 14.5%. Vinoth Kanna, despite missing the first 6 games took 11 outfield catches, including 4 in the last game, likely equalling the Mandarin record for a single match.
